Machine Shop Policies & Procedures

CNC Programming Checklist

1. Compare Job Traveler information with drawing file.

2. Check drawing for correct scale.

3. Select the correct work point origin.

4. Check part for stock and thickness.

5. Create tools that are correct for each machining process.

6. Leave enough stock for bores and check bore size dimensions.

7. Check depths and hole sizes.

8. Count all holes on the drawing and count all holes in program.

9. Verify that cutter comp, coolant codes, Z axis retract and R values are correct.

10. Check to make sure all speeds and feeds match book specs for material being machined.

11. Write proper notes telling operators the function that each tool performs in each process.

12. Print proper setup sheets and tooling sheets, then review with CNC Machine Operators.

Machinists - CNC Machining Department

1. Before setup, check the part to make sure the correct side is facing up. Check burn-out windows, fab offsets, etc.

2. Check Thickness, Length, Width, and Setup Sheet for the part being machined.

3. Make sure that the program is stored in the card and is the correct program number per set up sheet.

4. Install all tools into the tool holders properly.

5. Verify that all tooling is probed for H, D, and T offsets.

6. Probe the part for Z-offset and probe for work-point-zero per set up sheet given for X and Y offset. Before machining, verify that the tool is the correct diameter.

7. Begin machining the part. Verify the 1st Hole or Milling Tool location with the drawing before continuing.

8. Always check your parts thoroughly before attempting to remove them from the machine. Count all holes. Check thread holes with thread plug gages.

9. Hone Table if table is scratched or scarred in order to maintain true table flatness.
