Precision Grinding opened doors in Birmingham, Alabama in 1971 with four grinding machines. Our original business model targeted "shear blade sharpening." We've been sharpening machine blades and industrial knives for almost 40 years now, and today, we're one of the most recognized blade sharpening companies in the country.

Today, we operate (8) of the largest Blanchard & Mattison Grinders housed within one plant in America. Two of our Mattison Grinders are for surface grinding machine blades to ± 0.001" tolerances. Our largest Mattison surface grinder can handle steel parts up to 31" h x 36" x 173".  Our grinding shop manager, Joe Wilson has been sharpening blades of all types for over 30 years. With the support of experienced grinding department personnel and experienced machine shop machinists, you can count on us when you need any size or style blades ground, reworked and refinished to a near new condition and shipped to you on time.

At times, supporting steel shims may be required to return your shears to the original thickness necessary to fit your machine. Precision Grinding will flame cut or plasma cut shims from plate inventory, laser cut or otherwise scissor cut roll stock, machine bolt holes when needed, and grind shims when necessary to OEM machine recommended shear size and specifications.

Our specialty skills include Blanchard Grinding (rotary grinding) large plates to over 48" x 200" on our 405HP Reciprocating Blanchard with capacity for 128" diagonal on our largest rotary Blanchard. We have the capacity to grind steel tables and fabrications to 45" tall.
